The LDWA is a walking organisation dedicated to offering longer walks to people who enjoy the extra pace and distance. |
Newcomers are welcome to attend any walk as guests as long as they feel able to walk around 20 miles at a steady 3 miles an hour.
You may walk as a guest on any three social walks, after which you should join the LDWA. On every walk you attend please let the walk leader know that you are a new comer and give your name and details at a convenient moment. This is to make sure you are covered by LDWA insurance. If you would then like to join the LDWA this is done at two levels. Firstly, you join the national association by going to http://www.ldwa.org.uk/ for membership details, fees (single membership currently £13.00 per annum) and information about the benefits of belonging to the LDWA. You can join on-line. Membership includes a Strider magazine three times a year listing all forthcoming activities as well as articles and other related walking information. The national site also has a list of local groups and events and links to other useful sites and information. Once you are a full LDWA member you may then become a member of one (or more) local groups. The London Group Membership subscription is currently free (unless you require a postal service for communications), if interested contact secretary@ldwa-london.org.uk. Joining a local group will provide you with a regular newsletter containing full details of walk leaders and group programme plus group activities not shown nationally. IN YOUR DEALINGS WITH ANY LDWA COMMITTEE MEMBER PLEASE CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING • The LDWA is a non profit organisation run entirely by volunteers. In other words all functions are run on a mutual basis by the members for the members, both at national and local levels. • Many committee members have a full time job. Some may be away on business or trips and may not respond quickly to you. ONCE YOU BECOME A MEMBER: • The route, duration, walking pace and timing of any walk is up to the leader on the day. Please support the leader by staying with the party. If for any reason you decide to leave the party do let the leader know. • Any member can offer to arrange and lead a walk, give their time to assist at a challenge event or take on a committee post. You will find people to help you if you are a novice. We are always pleased to receive assistance and suggestions. Help at events by members is essential for their continued success. • Other activities, social and weekends away are also organised by volunteers. • The London Group Committee meets four times a year. Those meetings and the AGM are open to all members as is the national association AGM. |
