Sat 14th Jan 'Oranges and Lemons' East of Trafalgar Square. c 18.5 mls Start Trafalgar Square Olympic Countdown Clock 9.00 (nearest stn Charing Cross). Walk along South Bank, through City, Shoreditch, Stepney, Victoria Park, London Fields, Hackney Downs, Hackney Marshes and pass Olympic Site to finish at Stratford Station. Arrive Guildford 9.04. A stroll through the Surrey countryside following the NDW to Puttenham then making our way across the Surrey Heathlands to Farnham for lunch.Pub stop at the Waverley Arms or there is a nearby fish and chip shop (openSundays). After lunch we leave Farnham by the River Wey & then wind our way through some more spectacular countryside to finish along the Wey into Godalming. To get to Grange Hill from central London it is simplest to take an Epping service as far as Woodford and change there (it took me ~75mins from Clapham). There are toilets at Woodford Tube station, and a snack bar where sandwiches can be bought until 18:00. Pub: the Two Brewers, Chigwell Row. It has a good selection of ales, an extensive (but rather expensive) food menu, and sandwiches are also available at £5-6 if you don't want to spend too much. Ldr Nick Marshall

Following the river from one of its sources, Carshalton Ponds, to the Thames. End probably at The Ship, close to Wandsworth Town station. [Since you ask, the other source of the Wandle is Waddon Ponds, 2.5 miles from Carshalton. If you would like to walk that bit too, let me know.
